This is our theatre review for Boing … Meow! at Liverpool‘s Bombed Out Church. Now, this is the sixth show of Liverpool Theatre Festival 2021. So, let’s take a look at Boing … Meow!
Boing … Meow!
Background
Stanley The Cat is simply searching for the perfect place that he can sleep. And there’s nothing more that Auntie May loves more than her ginger cat Stanley. But just like any cat, Stanley enjoys wandering around in the local neighbourhood. And he loves anywhere that he can have his afternoon nap. So, join Auntie May while she looks for Stanley while singing, dancing and creating interactive games for the audience. Indeed, everybody will love to spend time with Stanley and Auntie May. And it just proves that there’s nothing better than spending time and having tons of fun with your friends!
Analysis
This show comes from the mind of Asa Murphy, who stars as rapper Moggy D in this performance. Now, Asa is also the brains behind The Monkey With No Bum, a part of the July festival. And just like that show, this production brings to life one of his colourful children’s book to entertain a young audience. Indeed, the kids get to join in with songs, dances and chants throughout the performance. And this includes one section where Auntie May invites the children to chant “meow” alongside her.
Additionally, there is humour within the musical numbers, especially the rap song by Moggy DD that leads to eye-catching dance moves. And of course, the book itself is available for people to buy and read to continue telling this fun story. Best of all, the show ends on a high that allows everyone to celebrate Stanley coming home in style.
Summary
Families will love this show, but younger children will especially enjoy attending this performance. Between the songs, the jokes and the interactions, there is lots of fun for children of all ages. And it also reminds them that, should a cat disappear, if they hear “boing meow”, they know where to look!
