So, let’s take a look at Frank Skinner!
Frank Skinner
Background
Showbiz would originally begin as a sold-out five-week run at the West End’s Garrick Theatre. Since then, comedy legend Frank Skinner would add extra dates to his latest UK tour. And now he is bringing his critically-acclaimed stand-up show to Liverpool for one night only.
Prior to his West End triumph, Frank would enjoy great success with Showbiz. Amongst these are sold-out runs at London’s Leicester Square Theatre, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a 45-date national UK tour. Furthermore, this along with sell-outs for future shows all make Showbiz the must-see comedy event of the year.
Topics
One of Frank’s strengths is to ad-lib and adapt to any situation. This means that, while Showbiz focuses on celebrity life, no topic is off-limits. As a matter of fact, every subject on every gig is different. That’s due to Skinner’s audience interaction, whereby he invites attendees to raise subjects for Frank to discuss live. Furthermore, as a humble yet self-aware public figure, Frank is not afraid to poke fun at his own shortcomings. And many of these will have audiences laughing from start to finish.
The show also has heart with some personal tales that Skinner is willing to share with attendees. However, he also retains his sharp edge, which can lead to numerous “gasp!” moments. All in all, Showbiz is both a simple platform and an unpredictable beast, and one which the Liverpool audience will love.
Performer
Frank Skinner has a strong legacy as a stand-up comedian and television star. His entertainment career spans more than 30 years. The Birmingham-born comedian would garner success through TV hits such as Fantasy Football and The Frank Skinner Show. He is also a best-selling author with his autobiography being a smash hit. Furthermore, he and David Baddiel would delight football fans with Three Lions and Three Lions 98. Both songs are amongst the most popular British football tunes of all time. Recent years would see Skinner continue to entertain tens of thousands through his live stand-up comedy. And he remains a presence on television, with Frank being the host of Room 101 during the 2010s.
Venue
Liverpool’s Empire Theatre is a true mainstay of the city, ever since the venue’s initial opening in 1866. But a demolition of the original Empire would lead to the modern Empire opening in 1924. From there, the Empire would become a focal point for the UK’s top touring theatre shows. Indeed, so many iconic productions regularly come to Liverpool’s Empire Theatre. Furthermore, the list of performers to grace the Empire stage over the years reads like a who’s who. In addition, the Empire’s location is pivotal, with its positioning directly in front of Lime Street Station. The Empire has a total capacity of 2,381, with frequent sell-outs throughout the annual theatre calendar. Simply put, the Empire Theatre is amongst the UK’s top entertainment venues and an ideal backdrop for a classic night of theatre.
Tour
Showbiz opens at Reading Hexagon on June 25 2021. Then, the tour moves onto Bath, Plymouth, Poole, Northampton, Halifax, Leicester, Lincoln, Birmingham and Salford. At that stage, Frank brings his show to Liverpool’s Empire Theatre on July 25 2021. After that, he heads to Peterborough and Brighton, before finishing up at Blackpool Grand Theatre on October 3 2021. However, further dates for late 2021 and beyond are awaiting confirmation.
