Background
Hang on to your broomsticks, because Goldilocks is about to be taking flight! So, after suffering the fright of her life, Goldilocks heads into a magical forest to look for her parents. But she’s unaware that her biggest adventure is awaiting in a huge castle within the middle of the woods. And she even meets the Fab 4, who have something magical that they need to tell her. Ultimately, Goldilocks stumbles on the great school of both witchcraft and wizardry. And together with the Fab 4, Goldilocks faces her biggest fears. In doing so, she must save her parents from the Wicked Queen Of The Enchanted Forest. So, this experience comes from the company behind A Fairy Tale Journey Across The Mersey. And so you should look forward to an all-new magical, musical, mash-up panto to satisfy all of the family.
Analysis
Over the course of 90 minutes, we observe a pantomime with some interesting twists. For instance, we usually see Goldilocks chasing porridge with the Three Bears chasing her. But here we have a new arc as Goldilocks seeks to rescue her parents. However, there are still nods to her previous tale, such as her finding a toadstool that is just right. We also get comedy capers courtesy of her Fairy Odd-Mother, a pantomime dame with a wicked sense of humour. And not forgetting the Wicked Queen Of The Enchanted Forest, whose vocal skills are very impressive. Indeed, her singing talents are the highlight of the show from a performance standpoint.
But of course, on a musical level, we have to mention the use of The Fab 4. Now, this is early 60’s era Beatles characters, with the grey waistcoats and black mop-top wigs. And though they never identify themselves as the original group, it’s still fun to see these characters in a new dimension. And then you have the magic and wizardry that moves the tale along up to its satisfying conclusion. Not forgetting the music, mixing Beatles tunes with modern hits, and the usual audience interaction that comes from a pantomime.
Summary
This is a fun show that nicely interlinks two vastly different types of characters for one intriguing pantomime. I would personally like to see a few more Beatles songs, especially from the Fab 4 themselves. But otherwise, it’s a treat for attendees of all ages. And this show is one to look out for should it come around again during the Christmas season.
