Grease
Background
After a whirlwind summer romance, we meet the leather-clad greaser Danny and the girl next door Sandy. From there, they unexpectedly have a reunion when Sandy heads to Rydell High for her senior year. But can their love survive the trials and tribulations of teenage life and rekindle their romance? As you can see, then, the world’s most popular musical is back! Furthermore, it’s grittier and more glamorous than ever. The show has a phenomenal score that is full of hits. And these include Summer Nights, You’re The One That I Want, Greased Lightnin’ and Hopelessly Devoted To You.
Creatives
The director of this show is Nikolai Foster, with choreography coming from Arlene Phillips. Also, the book, music and lyrics come courtesy of Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Furthermore, the show has Colin Richmond as designer, Sarah Travis as musical supervisor and arranger, and Ben Cracknell as lighting director. Not forgetting Tom Marshall as sound designer, Dan Glover as musical director and Richard Roe as associate choreographer. Finally, this UK and Ireland tour comes courtesy of Colin Ingram Limited.
Cast
Peter Andre will make some special appearances during the tour. Now, Peter’s fame comes down to his striking musical talents, his charming personality and his handsome looks! Andre would burst onto the scene with Mysterious Girl in the mid-1990s. But to UK attendees, his appearance on I’m A Celebrity! Get Me Out Of Here would pave the way for further success in music and television. And now he plays a key role in bringing Grease to life, with his performance set to wow audiences all night long. We must point out that Andre will not be part of the show on Monday or Tuesday evening.
Venue
Liverpool’s Empire Theatre is a true mainstay of the city, ever since the venue’s initial opening in 1866. But a demolition of the original Empire would lead to the modern Empire opening in 1924. From there, the Empire would become a focal point for the UK’s top touring theatre shows. Indeed, so many iconic productions regularly come to Liverpool’s Empire Theatre. Furthermore, the list of performers to grace the Empire stage over the years reads like a who’s who. In addition, the Empire’s location is pivotal, with its positioning directly in front of Lime Street Station. The Empire has a total capacity of 2,381, with frequent sell-outs throughout the annual theatre calendar. Simply put, the Empire Theatre is amongst the UK’s top entertainment venues and an ideal backdrop for a classic night of theatre.
Tour
The musical opens at Leicester’s Curve Theatre from July 30-31 2021. Then, it moves into Plymouth Theatre Royal, The Marlowe in Canterbury, Nottingham Theatre Royal and Milton Keynes Theatre. From there, the show covers Regent Theatre in Stoke-On-Trent, New Victoria Theatre in Woking and The Orchard Theatre in Dartford. After touring The Alexandra Birmingham and Southampton Mayflower Theatre, Grease tours Liverpool’s Empire Theatre from November 15-20 2021.
