We welcome the announcement of Heathers The Musical bringing its inaugural tour to Liverpool‘s Empire Theatre. The show comes to Liverpool from Tuesday August 17 to Saturday August 21 2021. And tickets are now available for this exciting show. Now, this will be the first touring theatre show of 2021 at the Empire Theatre. So, let’s take a look at Heathers The Musical!
Heathers The Musical
Background
After two smash-hit record-breaking London West End seasons, Heathers finally begins its first UK tour. It’s a high-energy black comedy rock musical. If you’re familiar with the 1988 movie of the same name, then you’re in for a treat. And missing out might just be the death of you.
Greetings and salutations! We welcome you to Westerberg High, where Veronica Sawyer is amongst the nobodies dreaming of a better day. But then she unexpectedly falls under the power of three beautiful and impossibly cruel Heathers. Consequently, her dreams of achieving popularity finally start to come true! Well, until JD, a mysterious teen rebel, shows up. And he explains how it might kill to be a nobody, but it’s murder to be a somebody.
Creatives
The director of this show is Andy Fickman, with the choreographer being Gary Lloyd. Meanwhile, the music and lyrics come courtesy of Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe. Furthermore, this UK and Ireland tour is the work of Bill Kenwright Productions.
Cast
Rebecca Wickes plays the famous role of Veronica Sawyer, with Simon Gordon stepping up as JD. Additionally, we have Maddison Firth in the role of Heather Chandler, along with Merryl Ansah as Heather Duke. Furthermore, Lizzy Parker steps into the shoes of Heather McNamara. And other cast members include Mhairi Angus, Daisy Twells, Liam Doyle, Andy Brady, Kurt Kansley, Callum Connolly, Bayley Hart and Georgina Hagen.
Venue
Liverpool’s Empire Theatre is a true mainstay of the city, ever since the venue’s initial opening in 1866. But a demolition of the original Empire would lead to the modern Empire opening in 1924. From there, the Empire would become a focal point for the UK’s top touring theatre shows. Indeed, so many iconic productions regularly come to Liverpool’s Empire Theatre. Furthermore, the list of performers to grace the Empire stage over the years reads like a who’s who. In addition, the Empire’s location is pivotal, with its positioning directly in front of Lime Street Station. The Empire has a total capacity of 2,381, with frequent sell-outs throughout the annual theatre calendar. Simply put, the Empire Theatre is amongst the UK’s top entertainment venues and an ideal backdrop for a classic night of theatre.
Tour
The musical opens at Leeds Grand Theatre, running from July 28 to August 14 2021. Then, Heathers moves onto Liverpool’s Empire Theatre from August 17-21 2021. Next, the tour heads to Nottingham Theatre Royal; Sheffield Lyceum Theatre; and Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury. And then from there, Heathers visits Dublin, Milton Keynes and High Wycombe. Finally, the show concludes at Edinburgh Playhouse from December 7-11 2021, with 2022 dates and locations awaiting confirmation.
