This is our review of I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical at Liverpool‘s Bombed Out Church. Now, this is the first show of Liverpool Theatre Festival 2022. So, let’s take a look at I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical!
Synopsis Of I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical
It’s coming off of a second season at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The show boasts a West End Wilma Award plus three other award nominations and more than 20 five-star reviews. This sparkling musical revue uncovers everything you should know about life as a musical theatre performer. But if only there was somebody that would dare to admit it!
This show features an illustrious cast of West End regulars. It’s unique, and it humorously covers the journey from a drama school graduate to an arrogant diva. Or the has-been chorus member, or the bitter never-was. This production lifts the lid on terrible auditions, horrific dance routines, mid-show mishaps, and backstage betrayals. Oh, and also the magical moments on the stage that make it all worthwhile.
Analysis Of I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical
As this was the opening show of Liverpool Theatre Festival, the cast has set a very high standard to follow. Four ambitious singers/dancers/actors/comedians (the triple threat) perform very well. The real-life stars are Luke Harley, Alice Ellen Wright, Harry Winchester, and Holly Prentice. All four performers gave very enthusiastic, energetic, and confident performances for auditions. The pianist also wrote, directed, and co-arranged this show, the credits going to the very talented Alexander S. Bermange.
Instead of this production featuring songs from various musicals as you might expect, it’s an altogether different show. It is the story of an ambitious and hopeful actor. Nevertheless, Alexander rather cleverly weaves in references from several West End shows. We learn about the excitement of getting roles on stage and the very frustrating journey to get there. Not to mention the disappointments as understudies awaiting the leading role are unavailable through sickness etc. There’s even a fan stalker!
Summary Of I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical
This is a terrific one-hour production that covers every possible emotion. As noted, the bar is now set for the rest of LTF 2022 to meet or attempt to exceed. In the meantime, I strongly urge you to check out this show when it comes to a venue near you!
