Les Misérables
Background
This production would inspire a hugely successful movie starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Eddie Redmayne and this current show has so far toured North America, Brazil, Mexico, Korea, Japan, Canada, Australia, Spain, France, Manila, Singapore, Dubai and Broadway. Boublil and Schönberg’s magnificent score includes so many legendary songs. I Dreamed A Dream; On My Own; Stars and Bring Him Home just to name a few! Les Misérables one of the world’s most popular musicals with over 120 million views across 52 countries and in 22 languages.
Creatives
The writers of Cameron Mackintosh’s production are Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg. Their work uses the novel by Victor Hugo as its basis. Additionally, Schönberg provides the music, with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. Meanwhile, original French text comes from Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. And there’s additional material by James Fenton. The original orchestrations come from John Cameron, along with new orchestrations by Christopher Jahnke, Stephen Metcalfe and Stephen Brooker. As for the production itself, the directors are Laurence Connor and James Powell, with Matt Kinley as the head of design – taking inspiration from the paintings of Victor Hugo. With costumes by Andreane Neofitou and Christine Rowland, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Mick Potter, musical staging by Michael Ashcroft and Geoffrey Garratt, projections by Fifty-Nine Productions and music supervision by Stephen Brooker and Graham Hurman, Les Misérables is a production of talent not to be missed!

Dean Chisnall (Jean Valjean) has previous experience of playing this role. This includes its run at the Queen’s Theatre, making him the final actor to perform the role in the original production. Furthermore, his other recent theatre credits include Blood Brothers and The Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ The Musical. Additionally, his credits include Working; Shrek; Love Never Die; La Cage Aux Folles; and Never Forget.

Meanwhile, Katie Hall (Fantine) also continues her role from the tour opening in 2018. Furthermore, her other credits include The Phantom Of The Opera; Sweeney Todd; and West Side Story.
Venue
Liverpool’s Empire Theatre is a true mainstay of the city, ever since the venue’s initial opening in 1866. But a demolition of the original Empire would lead to the modern Empire opening in 1924. From there, the Empire would become a focal point for the UK’s top touring theatre shows. Indeed, so many iconic productions regularly come to Liverpool’s Empire Theatre. Furthermore, the list of performers to grace the Empire stage over the years reads like a who’s who. In addition, the Empire’s location is pivotal, with its positioning directly in front of Lime Street Station. The Empire has a total capacity of 2,381, with frequent sell-outs throughout the annual theatre calendar. Simply put, the Empire Theatre is amongst the UK’s top entertainment venues and an ideal backdrop for a classic night of theatre.

The musical opens at Glasgow Theatre Royal on 24 November 2021 before arriving at Liverpool’s Empire Theatre on 5 January 2022!
