Liverpool Theatre Festival today announces the exciting line-up of shows to premiere at Little LTF 2022. This is the festival of new works that returns to Liverpool next month. The second annual Little LTF emanates from St. Luke’s Bombed Out Church. And this showcase of new theatre shows runs from Tuesday May 3-Sunday May 8 2022.
So, Bill Elms founded the Liverpool Theatre Festival back in 2020. And this sister event highlights nurturing up-and-coming talent and showcases new works for the first time. Last year, the inaugural Little LTF attracted 1,200 attendees. Now, there are twelve brand new productions over six days in an intimate marquee setting. Tickets will go on sale today at 12pm.
A panel of industry professionals chose the new productions from more than 30 entries. Media and industry professionals will see the shows first-hand at the festival. And accolades will go to outstanding productions in specific categories.
Shows At Little LTF 2022
So, the 2022 festival opens on Tuesday May 3 with Megan Hindley and Beth Amos’ murder-mystery comedy Not Drunk But Disorderly. Then, on Wednesday May 4, there is Grandmother, a heart-warming musical play by Asa Murphy. Furthermore, on Thursday May 5, there’s comedy Keeping Mum (Karl Voden is the writer) and Mark Heller’s drama Killing Mice. Meanwhile, Friday May 6 provides Paul Daley’s saucy, warm-hearted romantic comedy It Must Be Love. Pampa Plays will bring this show to the stage. Later that night, there’s Angie Waller and Claire Jones’ cabaret show An Evening With Nana Funk.
A busy weekend of shows opens on Saturday May 7 with Murder, Mayhem and Magic. This is a children’s show from Kate Allerston and A Place for Us CIC Theatre. That leads to the drama Around The World In 72 Days: The Story Of Nellie Bly. Rebekah McLoughlin is the writer and it comes courtesy of Crew Of Patches Theatre Company. That night, we get Sh*t Faced Santa, an outrageous festive comedy from All Day Breakfast Theatre Company. Finally, on Sunday May 8, writer and director Victoria Evaristo presents the disability arts drama Just Aretha. There’s also Rebecca Casey and company’s musical theatre extravaganza Bigger Than Broadway. And last but not least, there’s the powerful Hillsborough play 97+ by Tom Cain.

The selection panel includes Bill Elms, James Baker, Francesca Peschier, Anthony Proctor, Sue Williams and David Fry. Bill commented: “We launched Little LTF last year. And we were overwhelmed by the response. Both from creatives and from our audiences, who flocked to see the fantastic range of new work. That has continued this year with an incredibly high standard of submissions across the board. The ambition, creativity and talent means the panel had a really tough time choosing just 12 shows. I can’t wait to see them for the first time. And I know our audiences are going to be just as inspired and entertained by what they see.”
Genres represented in the diverse and inclusive programme include cabaret, comedy, disability arts, drama, family entertainment, LGBTQ and musical theatre. Shows run between 50 minutes and 75 minutes, and there are no intervals. The festival will adhere to any Covid-19 guidelines at the time. Tickets for all the shows go on sale from 12pm on Thursday April 7. Little LTF is supported by The Granada Foundation and sponsored by Falconer Chester Hall architects. Its partners include Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, Epstein Theatre, St Luke’s Bombed Out Church and dBS Solutions.
