Format: Musical
Date: June 22 2019
Location: Auditorium At M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool
Since he was first seen as part of the Jackson Five back in 1964 as a young but extremely talented six-year-old, Michael Jackson was a talent that could not be matched and this was confirmed as he embarked on his solo career in 1971. Now in 2019 and despite his passing the world still enjoys his music through numerous albums and tribute bands.
Navi however, takes tribute to a whole new level and as the audience start to take their seats we are greeted by a video playing on screen showing the story of Navi and how he was worked with Michael himself as a concert / album promoter and even as a decoy. This all made possible by the uncanny resemblance that Navi has to the man himself.
As Navi makes a powerful entrance to the stage, you are left in no doubt that this is going to be an awesome evening and you are not disappointed.
The audience, who it was nice to see where a mix of all ages from a four year old boy in complete Jackson costume (White Suit, Hat, Wig, Mic and even plasters on his fingers) right through to people who would have seen him at the start with his brothers in the Jackson 5.
The evening opens with Smooth Criminal; the voice, dance moves and mannerisms are undeniably Michael. The acoustics in ‘The Auditorium’ are amazing and the bass …. well, Wow!
Navi is a real showman and engaged with the audience regarding football to cheers and boo’s and a few laughs as he admitted to being a Tottenham Fan. An interesting choice for the Trinidad born star but we’ll forgive him. The audience warmed to him and we are grateful that it was only a joke that he’d tried to cancel pretending to ‘loose Bubbles’.
The music continues and takes us back to 1987 with The Way You Make Me Feel complete with backing singers in streetwear who were very cool.
Beat It comes next complete with the sparkly red jacket and Navi’s facial expressions are so Michael like the audience seem transfixed on the performance.
Another look change and Black or White is performed complete with some surprises for the audience. Navi certainly puts his all into the performance and his passion for the Legend that is Michael Jackson, again engaging with the audience: “I’m knackered!” he said with a smile.
Referencing the fact that there were a lot of the audience who confirmed that we were around to hear BAD in 1987 (Navi noting that there are a lot of old people here…… funny guy!) the performance begins, and the evening continues to mesmerise.
As the evening progresses, I could write about every song but then we’d have to put a ‘spoiler alert’ on this review the musicians continue to amaze and Andrews guitar rift in Dirty Diana wows us once more.
The show leads to the break with a poignant and emotional video showcasing parts of Michaels life and sad passing.
Jackson Five
Part two continues with an amazing melody of Jackson 5 hits and we are reminded of just how amazingly talented the Jackson family were. Followed by more of the timeless classics we know and love that get the audience on their feet and in the aisles.
As Navi continues to wow the audience with his voice and performance one reaction from a friend was ‘if you close your eyes, you’d believe he was the real thing’ no wonder then that he holds the title of the Worlds No 1.
An Amazing Show
This concert is one of amazing talent from Navi, his musicians and his dancers. The lighting and acoustics team are a credit to him and provide all the wow factor you would expect from the King of Pop. It leaves you feeling elated, remembering so many of the songs that have taken many of us through the years.
This show continues around the UK for the coming months and if you have the opportunity to go, we can highly recommend it. We will certainly be going again!
