The Rat Pack – Live From Las Vegas
Description
As the show began, we were transported by to the 50s and 60s and the historic ‘A Place In The Sun’ Sands Hotel and Casino, based on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, USA. During its heyday, it was the centre of entertainment hosting many famous entertainers of the day, including – of course – The Rat Pack.
The show captured the humour, style and culture (good and bad) of the time. The camaraderie between the three Rat Pack members, Frank Sinatra (Garrett Phillips), Dean Martin (Keiron Crook) and Sammy Davis Jr. (David Hayes) was evident, with lots of banter and good-humoured teasing of each other throughout.
Analysis Of The Rat Pack – Live From Las Vegas
From the outset, Garrett Phillips as Frank Sinatra stole the show. Looking and sounding incredibly similar to Frank, we were treated to many of his signature numbers, such as The Lady Is A Tramp, all with silky smooth vocals that effortlessly captured the style of Ol’ Blue Eyes. Keiron Crook as Dean Martin and David Hayes as Sammy Davis Jr. provided the humour and brought back the memories of many in the audience who joined in the singalong.
Solo
There were standout solo performances, as well as great dancing and singing from the Burellis (Amelia Adams-Pearce, Joanna Walters and Laura Darton). So, their costumes were beautiful, and their vocals and harmonies matched. Elsewhere, Sammy struggled a bit with the higher notes of Mr Bojangles and seemed outdone by his Rat Pack partners. But nevertheless he gave it a good go and provided a very believable performance.
Ella Fitzgerald – the Queen Of Jazz – was ably portrayed by Nicola Emmanuel. Although the two never recorded together, the Mack The Knife duet with Frank reflected the appearances they made at sell-out shows featuring the Count Basie orchestra in Las Vegas during the early 70s.
Summary Of The Rat Pack – Live From Las Vegas
The closing scenes had the audience on their feet (even the more mature members). Furthermore, the show finished with Frank singing My Way. What else could it have been? So, make sure to watch The Rat Pack – Live From Las Vegas if you get a chance.
