Introduction
David Knopov returns as Perfectly Frank – The swinging salute to Frank Sinatra! So, keeping swing very much alive, David pays tribute to the legendary Frank Sinatra in the beautiful venue of the Epstein Theatre. With over 30 years’ experience of playing to global audiences, he is a well-regarded creative and respected musician across the North West.
Suited and Booted
David, smartly dressed as usual with the obligatory fedora, opened with Fly Me To The Moon. There followed, one Sinatra classic after another. The supporting swing band comprised piano, saxophone, double bass and drums. So, we were treated to several solo performances. Furthermore, a special mention must go to the saxophonist – absolutely wonderful.
Further musical numbers included The Summer Wind, The Lady Is A Tramp (accompanied by a very funny story), I Get A Kick Out Of You, It Was A Very Good Year, Mack The Knife, Nice ‘n’ Easy, One For My Baby (and one more for the road) and That’s Life along with many others.
Daisy Gill
So, we then met guest performer Daisy Gill, a singer and songwriter from Liverpool. Warm vocals and a confident performance followed. With retro style, this songstress is definitely one to watch. Daisy would return for a further slot in the second half of the show.
As usual there was a good deal of banter from David who really engages with the audience and made us laugh. At the end of the show, the somewhat conservative audience showed their appreciation with a standing ovation. So, their reward was New York, New York, and to close the show, My Way.
Summary Of Perfectly Frank
I have been looking forward to this show for a long while, (the original show was postponed). I wasn’t disappointed. David Knopov excels as Sinatra and the supporting swing quartet are sublime.
