With Craig Revel Horwood as director and co-choreographer, Strictly Ballroom: The Musical follows the arrogant and rebellious young ballroom dancer Scott Hastings. However, his radical and daring dance style loses him favour with the Australian Federation. Consequently, he must dance with a virtual beginner in the form of Fran. But together, they build up the courage to defy tradition.
Furthermore, there are such smash-hit songs as Love Is In The Air, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps and Time After Time. Plus, there’s all-new music written by internationally-acclaimed artists such as Sia, David Foster, and Eddie Perfect. This show is a feel-good ballroom sensation that will make for an unforgettable evening under the glitter ball. It will send your heart soaring and your toes tapping!
Analysis Of Strictly Ballroom
I really enjoyed this show on numerous levels, even after a 15-minute delay due to production issues. For starters, Maisie Smith is exceptional as Fran, with her singing talents particularly impressing me. Meanwhile, Edwin Ray stood in for Kevin Clifton as Scott Hastings, and he did a fabulous job. There were other strong performances from the likes of Agnes Pure as Tina Sparkle and Liv Alexander as Liz. Additionally, I liked how the show didn’t take itself too seriously, leading to some very amusing scenes.
However, let’s face it: the audience is primarily here for the dancing. And we got plenty of nifty moves, with one truly outstanding scene leading us into the intermission. Jose Agudo as Rico steals the show with dancing that has to be seen to be believed. And while the show has numerous highlights, none can trump this moment in my opinion. Elsewhere, there were some eye-catching costumes, the songs are catchy, and the set is also pleasant to view. Furthermore, I liked the numerous plot twists that showed some real thought had gone into the story arc.
Summary Of Strictly Ballroom
This is the sort of show that allows you to just sit back and relax. There’s a mixture of dynamism and chaos, triumph and threat, all brought together in a unique and memorable production. It’s definitely going to appeal most to fans of ballroom dance, but virtually everyone should enjoy this production.
