Background
So, Duke Harley is pacing around a hostel room that is no bigger than a prison cell. What’s more, a worn-down sellotaped camcorder faces him with the red Hostel sign fizzing and flickering. But Duke has around an hour, seventy minutes at most, to say what he needs to say. Indeed, he wants to say what he feels he has to say. Basically, he wants to get everything off his chest and out into the open. Sure, he doubts it, but who knows? And it could even mean that he gets the one thing back that he truly misses. Actually, the only thing. But is anyone really listening? And has anyone ever really listened to Duke C Harley? So, this show is brutal, raw, funny and heartbreaking in equal measure. Furthermore, it focuses on first-hand relevant themes, full of profanity and power plant poetry. What’s more, it looks at cause and effect, and this poses the question: what would we do?
Cast
The multi-talented Carl Rice not only performs in the show, but he is also the writer of this production. And this adds further authenticity to what is already a relatable story.
Venue
St. Luke’s Church is more notable amongst Liverpudlians as being the Bombed Out Church. And that’s because of the impact of the Blitz during the Second World War on the church. But its history dates back to its original opening between 1811 and 1832. Furthermore, it remains a cultural landmark for those within the city. And it now acts as a hidden gem for the city with live entertainment and refreshments available for locals. Best of all, it acts as the home base for the Liverpool Theatre Festival. Why not come along to the festival to check out the church yourself?
