This is our theatre review for The Forgotten Forest at Liverpool‘s Bombed Out Church. Now, this is the third show of Liverpool Theatre Festival Of New Works 2021. So, let’s take a look at The Forgotten Forest!
The Forgotten Forest
Synopsis
The homes of our furry friends are the subject of pollution! And as if that wasn’t enough, the mean Queen Morticia is now trying to build on the forest! So they need somewhere else to live, but there’s good news: YOU can help! And yet some litter isn’t necessarily the rubbish as you think! As a matter of fact, what constitutes rubbish to some people can appear artistic and dynamic to other people. And that forms a key layer of this intriguing story.
But there is also a unique element to these animals. For these are not just any ordinary animals; these animals have the ability to talk! And sing and dance and laugh and everything else that humans are able to do. But this could enrage Queen Morticia rather than impress her. Therefore, the animals, with the audience’s help, must figure out how to grab her attention sufficiently. And if they can do so, the forest will remain!
Analysis
This is a fun story that celebrates so many positive traits in life. And these include strong friendship, real togetherness, helping the environment and bringing together the local community. Furthermore, the younger attendees receive encouragement to join in and play an integral role in the show. This ranges from singing and dancing along with the animals to using props that are supplied to everyone on hand. All of this brings the crowd into the show, with this performance having a particularly enthusiastic and excitable audience.
Additionally, the cast all do a fine job in their roles. Sam Walton as Roxy The Fox and Edwina Lea as Stuart The Rabbit progress the story after entering through the crowd. Then there’s Roxanne Male as Siobhan the naive villager, who actually has a fascination with Queen Morticia (Becky Brooks). There are also giggles courtesy of Adam Nicholls as Trunk, a bear whose threat levels drops in line with his odour! All five come together to hold one’s attention throughout and ensure that the kids leave with a smile on their faces. I must also note that Sam was a late replacement, and she would effortlessly step into Roxy’s shoes. Well, paws.
Summary
The Forgotten Forest is a great way for the children to spend their hour by laughing and learning alongside the magical animals. And with this being the first outing for the show, one expects it to tour in the months to come. So, if you get a chance to see it, I suggest that you do so. For this show offers a pleasant and interactive entertainment experience for attendees young and old.
