This is our theatre review of The Wizard Of Oz at St Helens Theatre Royal. So, let’s take a look at The Wizard Of Oz!
The Wizard Of Oz
Background
Come and follow the Yellow Brick Road to see a show full of fun, magic and adventure! It’s a classic Regal Entertainments pantomime, one of four shows during the February half-term. This particular show covers friendship and love. Furthermore, it remains a true favourite show for anyone that loves theatre at any age. Come with Dorothy and Toto on an amazing adventure to the Emerald City. They will meet the likes of The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and The Cowardly Lion. All of them have special wishes that the Wizard may grant once they reach Oz. So, come and see if their dreams can come true! And will Dorothy make it home?
Analysis Of The Wizard Of Oz
Once again, St. Helens Theatre Royal met our expectations with a great pantomime. So, the cast features Mia Molloy as Dorothy, Reece Sibbald as the Scarecrow and Harry Moore as the Tin Man. Not forgetting Scott Gallagher as the Lion, Abigail Middleton as the Wicked Witch and Jenna Sian O’Hara as Glenda. And of course we have Adam Melville as the Wizard. The audience of adults and children were all very excited throughout the show to create a wonderful atmosphere. So, the pantomime opened with the truly evil Wicked Witch, who delivered a very strong performance. Glenda as the good fairy was really sweet.
A particularly special aspect was that a real dog played Toto. (I believe there were actually two dogs: Buddy and Benny). This made the performance more realistic. Elsewhere, there were very good dancers in colourful costumes. Not to mention some great musical numbers throughout the show. In particular, a sincere rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow was delivered with great energy. Furthermore, the Scarecrow was excellently cast and entertained us all evening with lively action and a witty script. There was plenty of audience participation which the adults and children alike enjoyed. And near the end of the show, the Scarecrow invited three children onto the stage. So, this really added to the show.
Summary Of The Wizard Of Oz
I would thoroughly recommend going to St. Helens Theatre Royal to see this wonderful pantomime. Make sure to travel along the Yellow Brick Road to see The Wizard Of Oz!
