Y’MAM: Young Man’s Angry Movements
Background
This show has a true story as its basis and provides brutal, almost unnerving honesty. So, Luke Jerdy brings to life the story of Majid Mehdizadeh on the stage. Now, this autobiographical one-man show covers the origins of Majid’s actual personal struggles. So, the topics include anger, anxieties, desires and fantasies, with Toxic Masculinity as the focus.
Furthermore, Majid invites us to accompany him as he sets off on a journey to a brand new ‘manhood’. And it’s a manhood which is very modern and considers the world that we presently live in. What’s more, the production manages to combine high energy with spoken word, movement and music. Therefore, this show manages to be inspiring and uplifting as it tackles love, appreciation and how to let things go.
Creatives
Luke Jerdy is the star and writer of the show, with the mysterious Majid Mehdizadeh being the story’s basis. Additionally, there’s Adam Welsh as director, Kirsty Barlow as designer, Alex Fergusonas producer, and Francesca Peschier as dramaturg. Also, the show has support from Arts Council England, Stage One Bursary For Producers and Change Grow Live.
Cast
Luke Jerdy is a Derby-native who you may recognise as Jesse Donovan in Hollyoaks. Currently, he hosts Triple Captain as a part of the Sound Rebel Network. And he greatly prioritises health and fitness, as well as discussion of men and their mental health. So, this actor and writer is ideal to be part of this thought-breaking show.
Venue
Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre is instantly recognisable due to the light-up photographic panels outside the venue. But it’s also striking due to its plethora of topnotch plays, musicals, comedies and spoken word shows. Furthermore, its circular interior and its intimate capacity of 400 make for a pleasant and unique theatre experience. And it sits as part of Hope Street, right in the heart of Liverpool’s culturally-diverse student region. This also allows attendees to sample the city’s incredible nightlife in nearby bars after a show. So, the Everyman Theatre is a superb option if you wish to sample a Liverpool theatre show.
